PSpice for TI 2020 Release does not start

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PSPICE-FOR-TI

After installing PSpice for TI 2020 Release is runs once correctly. After closing and calling pspice.exe again, it does not start, please see attachment. The license.txt on AppData\Roaming\Cadence\VBL\TI_PSpice_174\license is empty!
Also, no shortlink on Windows 10 start menu was created. So I don't know, if pspice.exe is the corrent main program or not.

"ERROR (LMC-02955): License call failed for Feature PSpice_TI, version 17.4000 and quantity 1. the license server search path is defined as C:\Users\u0016861\AppData\Roaming\Cadence\VBL\TI_PSpice_174\license\license.txt. An internal error occured..."

  • Hi Falko,

PSpice.exe is not the correct executable for you to start the PSpice for TI user interface. Do you have this in your program files:

Please note that you should use PSpice for TI as the same user who installed it.

    Thanks,
    JC

  • Hi JC,

Thank you for this hint. With this, I have found a lnk-file in 'admin' 's folder an found out that Capture.exe is the main program.

Good news: After copying the license.txt from 'admin' to the 'user' as preparation and starting Capture.exe 'as administrator' so PSpice runs :-)

However, this would be a security issue and I have to start it as 'normal user'. On the other side I have to install PSpice for TI as 'administrator' because the installer is requiring it. As I remember correctly, no option 'install for all user' is provided.

So, any idea to solve it? I have not yet found this in FAQ.

    BR, Falko

  • Falko,

The admin right is only needed for installing the Microsoft VC++ libraries if your system does not contain them already.

If that's the case, you can work with your IT to provide the user account temporary admin privilege and remove that after the installation.

    Thanks,
    JC

  • Hi JC,

The installer requires admin rights absolutely. The installer cancels immedaitely if installation 'as admin' is denied. So, I have to wait for an improved installer before trying out.

    Thanks,

    Falko

  • Hi Falko,

Please PM me your contact info. I think it's best to have a conf call.

    Thanks,
    JC

  • Hi JC,

Thank you for this offer. However there will be no secure solution without optimiized installer. So, please inform me when it will be available.

    BR,

    Falko

  • Hi Falko,

As mentioned, the installer does NOT require administrative right and you do not need to run it as an admin. Only those Microsoft VC++ libraries do so it you already have them and still have trouble, we'll have to troubleshoot it over a call.

    Thanks,
    JC

  • Hi JC,

maybe, I am wrong: I am using PSpice-For-TI_setup.exe, 17.40.006. Please, an you double check, if it is not the correct one?

How can I attach a picture (jpg) here in the forum? It shows, the installer requires rights, provided by 'admin' only. This is ok, but then, the installer installs the program for the 'admin' only, not for the user.

    BR, Falko

  • Hi Falko,

You can paste your screenshot right here.

You are running the correct installer. I am using a non-administrative account and I just double-clicked my copy of the installer, this came up:

    Thanks,

    JC

  • Hi JC,

I am too stupid to post the picture: Choosing "Insert->Image/video/file" with the URL "C:\Users\u0016861\Desktop\PspiceInstallerPspiceInstaller.jpg" in the status bar below I get: "The file or URL is not allowed to be inserted." Drag'n'drop into this site also not works.

  • Hi Falko,

By paste I meant Ctrl-V. If you want to use the insert method, click the gray "Upload" below the empty box. I found that accidently after spending 2 days thinking it was broken:)

  • Hi JC,

TY. Ctrl-V works. The dialog hits immediately after starting the installer. However, trying to install as 'user' cancels the installer, and installing as 'admin' installs for admin only. Solution, I my opinion, would be the option 'install for all user' in the installer in the following (as known from other installers/programs).
