TIDA-00916: Multi-ESC Control with Single C2000

Part Number: TIDA-00916
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28069,

Hello,

This reference design has a single ESC controlled by a TMS320F28069. I am wondering if the DSP has enough compute to process speed controls for more than one ESC at a time, and if so how many can run on a single DSP?

  • Hello,

thank you for your interest in TIDA-00916.

The TIDA-00916 designer will investigate the MIPS for the below requirements (as per TIDA-00916) and get back to you on that for one or more ESC in latest one week (12/17).

The MIPS depend on the desired PWM frequency, current and FAST observer control cycle and maximum electrical speed.
The TIDA-00916 test results were for 45kHz PWM (or higher), and 22.5kHz current control cycle as well as 22.5kHz FAST observer cycle time

If you have different requirements that listed above, could you send us please? That will help with the MIPS estimate specific to your ESC.

    Thank you.

    Regards,
    Martin Staebler

  • Hello,

TI has conducted CPU load conditions based on the InstaSpin-FOC frame work, this effort can be seen in the user guide and the document is based on the F28069M.

    https://www.ti.com/lit/ug/spruhj1i/spruhj1i.pdf

Here you can see this information in section 8.6, based on this data you can get a good estimation on how many ESC's you can run per processor based on the execution time of the code.

    Regards,

    Kristen
