TIDA-010054: dual active bridge

Part Number: TIDA-010054

i have designed the DAB converter but when i apply some small voltage to transformer at rated load the transformer produces noise and distortion at the secondary side  .What could be the reason for this .Anyone here who has designed Dab converter. Need help. Also want to know how to initially start Dab to limit the inrush current

  • Hi,

    1. the noise and distortion could be caused by flux unbalancing. Do you have DC blocking cap on your prim side? Alternatively, did you apply dual phase shift or peak current control mode which can help avoiding flux unbalancing w/o DC blocking cap.

    2.  were you testing in open loop or close loop? if open loop, you may need to apply very small phase shift a beginning. If close loop, you may need to apply the ref voltage/ ref current with a slow ramp. Also some soft start circuit(current limiting resistor) can be implemented to reduce the inrush current during start-up.

  • I have not added any dc blocking capacitor ...could you share the calculation for the capacitor value

  • Hi, the DC blocking cap value selection was based on simulation. Pls make sure the DC block cap will not attenuate the main switching freq. For 100kHz switching freq a value between 2 uF and 8 uF will be okay. For better heat dissipation and lower ESR, I would recommend to parallel more small value caps.
