PMP10215: L8 & L9 in schematic don't match BOM parts

Part Number: PMP10215

Hi there, I am finally assembling our make of the PMP10215 Evaluation Board and have ordered inductors L8 & L9 as per Rev D (and Rev E) BOM's from the TI website.  I've just realised that in the BOM it specifies the use of Wirth 744741101 inductors which are actually 100uH not the 10uH that the schematic shows.  Will it be a problem using the 100uH inductors that I have purchased?  If so, which part is the correct value for inductors L8 & L9?

Thank you.

Mark

  • Hi Mark,

Actually I downloaded the BOM (in revision E) from TI website (link: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/tidrlm2). The BOM shows for both inductors L8 and L9 a value of 10uH and the part number is 744711005 (datasheet link: https://www.mouser.com/datasheet/2/445/744711005-1722097.pdf)....so there must be a typo or mistake somewhere but I cannot find it.

Anyway I confirm the part number 744711005.

Please let me know if that is OK or you accessed a different file.

    Best regards,

    Roberto

  • OK, maybe I fond the issue:

If I click on the schematic over L8 and L9, the window shows actually in the library reference and part number a Wuerth inductor 744741101, which is 100 uH, but in the description it says 10 uH. Anyway, the text on the schematic shows 10 uH and the BOM as well, so please use 10 uH, part number 744711005 .

    Best regards,

    Roberto

  • Hi Roberto, I don't think the gerber files and therefore PCB layouts, Assembly Drawing documents etc have been updated to reflect the 744711005 product as the footprint for L8 & L9 is still for a vertical choke/inductor (the 74471101 product).

The 744741101 still appears on the Wurth page for this product also:  https://www.we-online.com/web/en/electronic_components/produkte_pb/products_pbcm/product_spotlight/pmp10215.php

So I guess we will have to stick with the 74471101 inductor as it suits the gerber files etc that we have had produced.  Does TI still support the design using this part?  If not, will the gerber file, PCB layouts, assembly drawings etc be updated to reflect new products too?

    Kind regards,

    Mark

  • Hi Mark,

In the latest PCB layout I added two small HF inductors L8 and L9; fine-tuning of the EMI section takes time and I used the part 74471101's library only to route the layout. Then, during the debugging I found that the part 744711005  was the best in terms of EMI performance. I know this inductor should be placed horizontally on the board, but there was no space so I added a thick wire on one terminal and populated it vertically. You can see it in the picture of the prototype. Please mount it in a similar way. if you think that vibration might bend them and lean to other components, you can add a shrinkable isolating tube. Does it sound reasonable?

    Thanks,

    Roberto
