TIDA-00951: Reg : Scaling up the output voltage

Part Number: TIDA-00951

Hi

We are planning for 3Phase inverter which input source is 77V-130V DC Battery source

We need a DC-DC Boost converter with isolation for input & output, which maintains constant DC Bus voltage of 750V/3KVA

Would like to know shall we use TIDA-00951  for the boost converter

With Regards

Saravana

  • Hi Saravana,

TIDA-00951 is a isolated bidirectional converter, and only 48V to 400V converter. It looks this design doesn't meet your spec without modifications.

And, I have several questions for your requirement,

Do you need isolation from input to output?

And, do you need bidirectional power convert? the power flow is realtime bidirectional, or need be configured before starting up?

  • Hi Desheng

Response : Yes we need to modify the Design as per our requirement. Need your support on that

And, I have several questions for your requirement,

Response : Yes we need Input to Output Isolation

And, do you need bidirectional power convert? the power flow is realtime bidirectional, or need be configured before starting up?

Response : No we don't need bidirectional converter, We need boost converter with isolation. Which can boost from minimum 70V DC Input to 750VDC output

  • Hi Caliber,

This is not a simple work to modifiy TIDA-00951 into your spec, both input/output voltage and power are changed. You need to find another design closer to your requirement.

You need to redesign the transformer and inductor, and reselect all the MOSFET and diodes, this is a complete new design.

I suggest you to study our part of UCC28951(update of UCC28950) for soft switching full bridge converter, and there are a lot of trainning materials under this part's web page, including simulation, calculation, and reference designs.

  • Hi Desheng

Can you suggest as any Boost topology to boost 70VDC input to 700VDC Output

It would be help full for us if you can share us the TIDA-00951 Transformer, Inductor, PWM for each MOSFET and MOSFET losses calculation for thermal management

We'll try to scale up TIDA-00951 for our power rating

  • Hi Saravana,

Boost and buck are non isolated topology, but you need isolation. So your voltage conversion should be done by the transformer turn ratio.

I recommend you to choose full bridge in primary side, as your power level goes up to 3kW. Half bridge or push-pull will have larger current, this will increase the stress on your primary winding and power switches.

For your secondary side, the voltage is so high to 750V, and no any MOSFET or ultrafast diode can handle it directly. So, I recommend you to choose SiC diode, or use two outputs in serial, maybe voltage doubler also can be an option.

Considering so many differences, I don't think TIDA-00951 design could help you.

  • Hi Desheng

    Thanks for the your suggestion

We'll try for other solutions as you have suggested
