Good day

Concerning the TIDA-00792 board.

Whats is the difference between the Bat and Pack?
is c0 and Bat- the same point ? as we measuring an 8 cell battery pack.

Hey Aubrey,

"BAT" is a designator for the battery stack. "PACK" is the load that the batteries are powering.

C0 is short for the bottom of the lowest cell in the stack, this would be the same net as Bat-.

Thank you for the feedback, I would also like to know if the AFE BQ7693003DBTR is configured by default or done one also need the EV2400 board to set configuration?. Im interfacing the AFE with a BQ7850dbtr-r1, is the communication between the to autonomous?

Hey Aubrey,

The BQ76930 does not come configured by default. You will need an external microcontroller to operate and control this device. Communication between the BQ7850 is autonomous. By default, the BQ7850 is set up for a 5-series cell, 4400mA battery application using the BQ76920 AFE, you will need to program the BQ7850 in production. The two devices can work autonomously after the BQ7850 is programmed.

TIDA-00449 has reference code available and the BQ76930 product folder has simple example code using I2C with CRC.

In my application ive made a modification by using the BQ7693003DBTR since I am monitoring 9 cells. the actual issue i have is that can i configure the device via i2c for 18Ah Li battery ?

Yes, you can configure the device via i2c for that capacity Lithium battery.

Hi , ive gone through the Documentation of the TIDA-00792. the design to mine is relatively the same mine only difference is the AFE and the number of cells being monitored. Since i don't have the EV2400 i wanted to configure it with the i2c bus but i couldn't find the BQ76930 product folder in the TIDA docs.

HI Caleb, just have another question. Ive powered the entire board with a power supply at 30V it doesn't seem like the BQ76930 is drawing any power as no current consumption indication. The REGSRC Voltage is at 9-10V and getting out REGOUT signal. Do i have to connect battery for the board to function? or can it be tested with a power supply?

Hi Aubrey,

You can test the board with a power supply. You do not need to use a battery to test the board.

Hi Andria thanks for the feedback. The issues is that Ive powered board with a PowerS +ve at VBAT and -Ve at C0 ( 30V). I don’t any current drawn when i power up. however, REGSRC has and output of 9-10V and not output signal on the REGOUT pin

Hi Aubrey,

Your device may still be in ship mode. Please refer to section 8.4 Device Functional Modes for how to switch the BQ76940 from ship mode to normal mode. If that is not the problem, the BQ78350 may be triggering a voltage-based shutdown. Please refer to section 8.4 in the BQ78350 for more information. If you have less than the maximum number of cells connected, make sure the AFE cell map register is configured properly. Improper configuration could also trigger a voltage-based shutdown.

Hi Andria , Wel i haven't really done any i2c communication to the device since my i2c pull ups are powered by the REGOUT which is not been providing a voltage. Therefor i cant really communicate with the device at it moment. I was thinking id connect a 3.3V on the pull ups and check if that can initiate communication ?

Hi Audrey,

In order to switch the BQ76940 out of SHIP mode, you need to apply voltage to the TS1 pin. Section 7.5 in the data sheet lists the necessary voltage (Vboot) that you need to exceed for at least time tboot_max to boot up the device. I hope this helps!
