TIDA-00405: DRV10983 in the TIDA-00405

Part Number: TIDA-00405
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8846, DRV10983

Hi Expert,

In TIDA-00405, there is 4 steppers for XYZ and extruder, which driven by DRV8846. But in the picture(page 2 of test report), there is a DRV10983, and it seems it's for the extruder. How to understand it?

Thank you!

Eason

  • Hey Eason,

Thanks for posting to the forum. It looks like this got assigned to the wrong team but fortunately I am familiar with DRV10983, so I should be able to assist on this thread. DRV10983 is a sensorless BLDC motor driver but extruders historically have used stepper motors. The stepper motors are driven using DRV8846, but I believe DRV10983 was placed here with the intent of suggesting the extruder to be changed to a BLDC motor instead of a stepper since BLDC motors are known for being quieter and the functionality needed by an extruder is just direction and a stable RPM which can be provided by the integrated control in DRV10983. Ultimately it looks like this system was not implemented this way but the figure was not updated.

    I hope this helps!

    Best,

    Isaac
