Hi Experts,

In PMP8740, specifically in the file "PMP8740 Rev_E 2KW BC Boost plus Auxiliary - Schematic.pdf" the diode D5 S1M-13-F what specific function does it have? Would not using it change anything?

Hi Gerald,

D5 allows the input cap of the auxiliary supply (C24) to be peak charged from the rectified AC voltage that is present on C7 (the input to the PFC boost.) No, do not remove this diode. If you do, the auxiliary supply will not work, and C24 will probably blow up due to excessive AC ripple current.

Just a follow-up question from the customer:
"why in SNVR414.PDF of the PMP8677 project, I can't find a diode similar to the D5?"

PMP8677 does not have PFC regulator in it, so the voltage after the diode bridge does not discharge to 0V every line cycle.
