PMP40871: Inductor voltage rating

Part Number: PMP40871

Hi,

I noticed that the inductor used in this design has a maximum voltage rating of 20 Vdc, whereas the peak inductor voltage will be about 48 V in this design. Is this an oversight? Or does this parameter not apply to self-induced voltages?

Kind regards,

Jef

  • Hi Jef,

Thanks for pointing this out. Probably just an oversight, but in general I have never run into an issue with the inductor over voltaging for such low voltage levels (less than 100V or so). We tested the boards with no issues, but if you are concerned moving to an inductor with a high voltage rating is certainly okay.

    Thanks,

    Robert

  • Hi Robert,

Thanks for the quick response. I've never had problems with this either, but I never had to use an inductor in such a small package before. I'll double check with the suppliers to make sure.
