PMP4496: WAY OF NOT USING MCU

Hi evryone,

After reviewing the BOM of the PMP4496 I saw that the designers used a MCU component

Is there a way to not use MCU and still implement the scheme?

I would be happy to hear abouy suggestions.

Hi, I think the MCU here is for communication with USB Type C port controller and interact with BQ device, as well as some logical control for 12V or 5V power path management, so if may be required using current configuration, Can you let us know your design spec and function, we have several new reference design that use latest PD controller + BQ charger which is compatible with USB PD3.0, 100W charging , meanwhile, it support standalone operation, do not need external MCU and simple GUI without firmware stuff required

my spec is to charge smartphone of 4000mAh~5000mAh with 5V 3A fast charge

Hi stas, I think for 5V/3A input, you won't be able to support 100W, if you are targeting a smart phone with fast charger, you can look into below link with fast charger IC, such as BQ2597/8 for reference.

Hi stas, the reference design I mention is for 1-5S battery application, that's why it can need higher power, but not specifically for power bank design, PMP41043 let me know if it helps,

the schematic in PMP41043 does not need any MCU here. please check

I saw this schematic you mentiones but i dont think the scheme is right fir what i want it dosent have any type c or usb connection to charge phones

for phones application, I believe TI BQ25970,BQ25980 can support fast charge, but that's beyond my scope on this application, can you raise a ticket with BQ charger family, so that an expert can support you on that application
