TPS54160: Webench online simulator questions

Part Number: TPS54160

Tool/software:

Hi,

I tried to simulate a buck converter with tps54x60 by using online simulator.

1 - For some reason if I change some component into schematic, other component sometimes (not always) are recalculated. No warning appears. In this way you can not check the result of your interest.

2 - If I click more than one time on Recalculate button, the result changes (e.g. phase margin), but the schematic doesn't have any variations.

Do you have experience about this behaviour? Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

  • Hi Dario,

Even i see similar behavior on online simulator.

Regarding 1st point, Some of the component values dependent on the other component values and it is expected that other component values also changes without any warnings. For example, if you change the RT/clk resistor, the inductor values also changes to keep the inductor ripple value same.

Regarding 2nd point, it could be due to output capacitor value or the component vendor got changed, which can cause the phase margin value to deviate from original value.

    Thanks,

    Nitya

  • Thank you for replying.

I didn't consider it, but it seems to be not a repetible behaviour in my experience with Webench.

For 2nd point, it's strange that no parameter seem to change into schematic. And it's not clear why components should change if you click on Recalculate button.

look at this: same schematic - different results

    Thanks

  • Hi Dario,

This could be due to some bug in the Webench design. However if you need any help in schematic review based on your operating conditions, i can help you. You can share the schematic design once it is ready.

    Thanks,

    Nitya
