PSPICE-FOR-TI: PSPICE-FOR-TI - BUG - simulation settings window opens blank

Part Number: PSPICE-FOR-TI
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: 74AC11000

Tool/software:

Hello, we have encountered a strange PSPICE-FOR-TI bug:

A "simulation settings" windows starts opening blank, without content, so simulation can't be configured and when started, it naturally ends with no results.

This behavior starts happening only recently, just few weeks ago the "settings" windows showed up normally.

There were no obvious changes, perhaps some Windows 10 actualization were performed in the background.

The blank settings appears both for old and all new projects from now on. Simulations are thus impossible anymore. App restart, PC reboot doesn't help.

PSpice: 23.1-2024 S001 Windows SPB 64-bit Edition

COrTclUtils_sGetLocale: en-GB

OS: Windows 10 Pro

We have tried all hints from older threads where users have encountered the same error, but nothing seems to fix it neither in the past nor now for us.

Would anyone pls. advice how to solve this ?

Thanks

  • Hi Robert,

Does this happen on every project? If so, please exist PSpice for TI, rename these folders and launch it again:

    "C:\cds_spb_home\cdssetup\ORCAD_CAPTURETIPSpice_Install"

    "C:\cds_spb_home\cdssetup\OrCAD_PSpiceTIPSpice_Install"

If this happens on a few projects only, then please share the projects.

    Thanks,
    JC

  • Hi JC, thanks for fast response.

Unfortunately that renaming hasn't solved the problem - empty simulation settings window persist in both old and very new project. Also - the two folders were recreated as soon as PSPICE has restarted - that is, I suppose, expected.

Actually the problem happens on any project, even trivial one created from the scratch.

    Any other suggestions ?

    Thanks

    Robert

  • Hi Robert,

Would you please open in an editor and check that the line is for "LIBPATH"?

If you have other tools installed, it may have an environment variable "$CDSROOT", please get its value in the environment setting:

Now please make sure all these paths (divided by ";") are valid. In my example, that'll be "C:\Cadence\SPB_24.1\tools\pspice\Library" and "C:\cds_spb_home\cdssetup\pspTILibDir".

    Regards,
    JC

  • Hi JC,

I did requested searches and found that indeed PSPICE.ini variable "CDSROOT" is not listed under user environmental vars.

    PSPICE.ini:

    LIBPATH=$CDSROOT\tools\PSpice\Library;C:\cds_spb_home\cdssetup\pspTILibDir
    BACKUP=$CDSROOT\tools\pspice\Backup

I have tried to fix it adding this variable manually:

so now all the paths aims to existing directories (hopefully to the right ones ?).

    dir %CDSROOT%\tools\PSpice\Library;C:\cds_spb_home\cdssetup\pspTILibDir

     Directory of C:\Cadence\PSpiceTI\tools\PSpice\Library

    04/29/2025  12:33 PM    <DIR>          .
    04/29/2025  12:33 PM    <DIR>          ..
    01/30/2024  02:52 PM            41,230 breakout.lib
    07/21/2021  08:37 AM               813 breakout.libsig
    11/20/2023  04:17 AM         2,238,673 cdn_psp_tipspice.lib
    ...

     Directory of C:\cds_spb_home\cdssetup\pspTILibDir

    05/19/2025  03:20 PM    <DIR>          .
    05/19/2025  03:20 PM    <DIR>          ..
    04/29/2025  09:03 PM             1,627 2025_April_29_20_58_11.log
    05/19/2025  03:20 PM                 0 2025_May_19_15_20_27.log
    12/01/2023  03:29 PM             7,313 74AC11000.lib
    ...

But unfortunately this hasn't made the PSPICE working, the settings window is still empty, simulation can't be started.

    Any other advice ?

    Regards

    Robert

  • Hi Robert,

If you don't have other tools from Cadence installed, then it is normal that there's no $CDSROOT. That being said, what's your time zone and what time during the day would be a good time for a conference call?

    Thanks,
    JC

  • Hi, see my PM

  • Hi Robert,

    BTW, what's your OS?

Would you please try this as well?

Edit this file: "C:\Cadence\PSpiceTI\tools\bin\orCefSettings.ini", append the following line to it:

    lang=en-US

Open PSpice and type below command in command window and press Enter. Wait for sometime and once the command is executed successfully, restart the tool and see if that helps

    DboTclHelper_ReRegisterOrCADPlugins

    Thanks,
    JC

  • Hi JC,

OS: Windows 10 Pro (stated in my initial post)

The ini file you mentioned already has lang=en-US.

On the other hand the COrTclUtils_sGetLocale command gets "en-GB" - not sure it makes any sense.

Well, I have executed the command you asked anyway.

It has not fixed the problem.

Please take in to account that our PSpice installation has been already working well for some time - ca 2months ago. The point is that it has stopped working recently. I would suspect some update on the background.

    Thanks and Regards

    Robert

  • Hi Robert,

so have you tried to replace "lang=en-US" with "lang=en-GB" in "orCefSettings.ini"?

    Thanks,
    JC

  • Yep, no change, sorry, PSpice still doesn't work.

  • Hi JC,

we have run out of time already. Reinstalled everything and have PSpice actually working. We did no updates, no new libraries etc. hopefully to keep PSpice alive for our actual project.

Thanks for your effort, although the problem was not resolved. I may reopen it when we encounter the bug again.

    Thanks & Regards

    Robert
