TIDA-00173: Flyback converter cascode circuit

Part Number: TIDA-00173

Tool/software:

Hello, I have a question regarding experiences with the reference project TIDA-00173. We based our design on this project and also used the cascode circuit. We are also using TVS diodes to limit the voltage at the lower of the two MOSFETs.

Now we received a comment stating that TVS diodes are not designed for such operation and that they begin to degrade even at low power levels. Apparently, their characteristic curve shifts and the breakdown voltage becomes lower. After consulting the diode manufacturer, we were also informed that TVS diodes are not designed for continuous voltage clamping applications.

Therefore, I wanted to ask you about your experience with this. Have you had projects where such a circuit was used, and have there ever been problems with the TVS diodes? These problems might also occur only after longer operating times. Do you also have experience with long-term operation?
