Changing the feedback resistors in SwitcherPro

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: SWITCHERPRO, TPS62200, TPS54620

It would be nice to be able to change the feedback resistors in SwitcherPro.  The text is red and bold, so it looks like it should be able to be changed.  In some of the models, (many of the internally compensated devices like TPS62200) it allows you to change the feedback resistors in the compensation "what if analysis".    The TPS54620, and others, it looks like you can change the values, but you would have to edit inputs to change the voltage for SwitcherPro to change the resistor values.  It would be nice if you could tweak those resistor values, to see its affects on the circuit.

  • Hi Mike,

Sorry for the late reply. On the TPS54620 schematic you can manually change R2 in the "Change Compensation" dialog. If you change R2, the "Output Voltage" range ("Calculated Minimum", "Calculated Maximum") will change. However, as you say, you cannot change the second resistor in the resistor divider going to V_SNS. I agree that it would be more flexible if you could change both R1 and R2 manually and have SwitcherPro calculate the effects on the circuit. I have added a request into the SwitcherPro bug tracking system to add this capability. However, due to resource constraints, it may take some time to get this feature added to SwitcherPro.

    Thanks,
    Michael

  • I would like to add that it would be far more useful to be able to change parameters and components directly either inside the what-if section, with a "save to current design" button to make the changes stick, or even more helpful, directly on the schematic page, without restrictions.  For example, I want to run the 54218 at 400kHz and use my current compensation and power stage components and see what I should be seeing.  I can't do that (that I can figure out).  This would make the tool far more useful in pointing out what might be wrong with a board that a customer currently has.

    thanks....jack

  • Hi Jack,

eLab has started work on a new tool that will dovetail with SwitcherPro. This new tool will allow you to freely change the design produced by SwitcherPro. Unfortunately, I don't expect that to be available until 2012.

    Regards,
    Michael
