IO_Link sensor(TIDA-00188) software

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: MSP430FR5738, TIDA-00188, TIDA-00339

Hi,

TIDA-00188 Design guide uses MSP430FR5738,  but we couldn't find
the related software of MSP430.

The user guide mentions "To download the software, see the design files at TIDA-00188"
but there are no software related files in the design files.

Even this is same in case of IO-Link Sensor Transmitter Booster Pack(TIDA-00339),
there is no related software. Is there any link to download the software?

Best Regards
Kummi

  • Hi Kummi,

I asked the owner of this design, and it turns out that to get the software you actually have to contact TMG (a third-party) that did the software stack and request the software: www.tmgte.com/.../texas-instruments There is a link off of the TI design page currently to contact TMG, but I don't know that this is obvious so thanks for pointing this out. I've also asked the author of this TI design to please update their design guide to reflect this fact so that others don't run into the same confusion in the future.

    Regards,
    Katie
  • Hi Katie,

Thank you so much for the confirmation.

Usually all the software related to the application notes or design guide from TI
used to be provided from TI, but what could be the reason for using Third party in TI Design this time?

And is there any option to buy the hardware mentioned in the TIDA-00188 application from TI?
Do we have EVMs related to MSP430 IO_Link sensor, so that the customer may quickly go into evaluation?

    Best Regards
    Kummi

  • Hi Kummi,

In general TI does release their own software for the TI Designs, but does occasionally use a third party software. I cannot speak to this specific design because I'm not part of the team that worked on it and made this decision, but I would suspect that the third party has some software already with some useful IP for this purpose and so the collaboration was done. I think if you simply contact TMG to request the software that they will provide it to you (when you have third party software like this sometimes it can't be simply posted on our website due to licensing or legal concerns).

For the hardware - for most TI Designs we provide the hardware files for you to be able to build the design. Some TI designs are based on Boosterpacks and Launchpads or other EVMs that can be purchased from TI, but this one looks like it has specialized hardware so we provide instead the hardware files (Gerbers, schematics, etc).

    Regards,
    Katie
  • Hi Katie,

Thank you so much for the detailed information.

I understood about the Third party software,
but the problem is we don't get proper response from the third parties.

About the TIDA-00188 software, I have mailed TMG last week but still
there is no response from them. I believe this TI Design won't be useful unless we get
    the necessary software.

Regarding the Hardware, it would be helpful if we have a hardware(Demo Kit) to promote the
TI solution to the customer and explain them about the good features of the solution with a demo.

    Best Regards
    Kummi
  • Hi Kummi,

I think someone from TI may reach out to you offline about this (I passed along your information). And thanks for mentioning your issue with TMG, I have notified some people internally to try to make sure we've got this smoothed out.

    Regards,
    Katie
  • Hi Kummi,

    I've contacted you by email.
