PWM controller for Flyback converter with serial communication

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCD3138, UCC28740, TPL0102-100, PMP20533

Hi,

I am working on programmable  AC-DC power supply with below spec

 Input range: 85 to 264VAC

Output voltage:5 to 15V

 Output power 50W

I am looking for  PWM controller with serial communication( I2C). Please suggest any suitable PWM controller.

I have checked digital power controllers ( UCD30XX) and it is not suitable for my requirement.

Thanks,

Satya

  • Naga,

Thank you for your interest in TI.
Usually I2C on power supplies is reserved for high performance computing/server digital power supplies like UCD3138 which i'm sure you saw. that may be overkill for your application.
I suggest looking at using an analog controller targeted for AC/DC flybacks like UCC28740 and then using a I2C-controlled variable resistor(digital potentiometer) like TPL0102-100. You would use the TPL device as a replacement for one of the Vout Feedback resistors(probably better to put it in the lower resistor) in the secondary side Vout divider to the optocoupler. This is a pretty common approach for power supplies actually.

Let me know if this is clear or if you have any questions on this.

    Regards,
    John
  • Naga,

Just one other note here. Besides the USB-C/PD specific pieces of this reference design, PMP20533 is a 15Vout, 45W design we have so it would be very close to what you need as a reference: www.ti.com/.../PMP20533

    I hope it helps.
