TINA/Spice/TLE2037: Active High Pass RC Filter

Part Number: TLE2037
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Hi guys,

I have designed an active high pass filter, which when using an ideal op amp gives a perfect response (as expected), however when using a real op amp I am getting some sort of a spike at the higher end of the scale. Does anyone know what is likely causing this, and if so, how I can rectify the issue? I have attached some images and the .TSC file, just in case.

Thanks in advance,

Gareth

  • Gareth,

The peak indicates a high frequency instability. You can see this with a transient pulse response below.
It shows the expected behavior for a high-pass filter, but there is extra high frequency ringing after each transition.
The most likely cause of the instability is the op amp's parasitic capacitance and/or open-loop response interacting with the filter components.

  • Hi John,

Thank you very much for your reply, and I'm glad that it is not just something that I have done wrong!

    Thanks again,
