TIDA-00712: Smartwatch Battery Management -- question regarding role of R26 in Protection section of Schematic Diagram

Part Number: TIDA-00712
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD83325L

Hi,

We are evaluating battery protection designs for a new wearable device and are currently considering using the BQ29700 coupled with the CSD83325L (similar to the TIDA-00712 reference implementation).

Question:  In the Protection section of the TIDA-00712 Schematic/Block Diagram, what is the role of the resistor R26?  R26 is a 0.56 Ohm resistor placed in series with the source of the CSD83325L MOSFETs.  Is this used (along with the Rds(on) of the MOSFETs) to tune the over-current (charge and discharge) trip-point to be within the bounds of max allowable current for this battery/system?  Or is it present for some other reason?

Thanks in advance,

Michael
