TIDA-00626: how to program MAAD-011021 digital attenuator IC

Part Number: TIDA-00626
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: USB2ANY, MSP430F5529, , LMX2592

respected,

as mention in the datasheet we have a programmable attenuator of MAAD-011021. how should we grogram it using USB2ANY what should be the code to or register values to be filled up to program the MAAD-011021. so we need SNx4AHCT244 IC to program the  MAAD-011021. kindly help us to program the digital attenuator

  • Pratik, hello and thanks for your continued interest in our TI Designs. This question has been forwarded to Ajeet who has been answering your questions on this design. He will answer your question as soon as he possibly can. As it is the weekend in India, please allow 1-2 days for a response.

  • Hi Pratik,

As mentioned in TIDA-00626 design guide (page 22), MAAD-011021 can be programmed using MSP430F5529 or any other GPIO.

We have tested using the GPIO (tied to VCC or GND directly) and you can also try on the same way.

There are two ways to set the level of MAAD-011021 control pins for setting the attenuation level.

    1. If you have U9 on board, provide the high (3.3V) or low (0V) on V1 to V6 pins of J2 as per attenuation value (table provided on MAAD-011021 data sheet) and low (0V) at OE pin of J2.

    2. If U9 is not on board, short  V1 to V6 pads with Y1 to Y6 pads of U9 respectively. Provide high (5V) or low (0V) on V1 to V6 pins of J2 as per attenuation value (table provided on MAAD-011021 data sheet).

  • thank you for the help. i will be testing this within two three days.
my other concrn is that as this particular IC is attenuator IC so how this IC is proving to be good in our design. I asked my college faculty the said that they supress the harmonics but as the same time may also affect the signal. please say me the PROS of this IC and also mention the CONS of this IC.
  • I jst had a concern that 3.3 V can be supplied from on board 3.3 v

  • Pratik,
The use of attenuator is to increase the dynamic output power range.
Combination of LMX2592 and RF amplifier (NBB-312-T1) will provide the output range, depends on the LMX2592 output power variation.
Using the variable attenuator, can reduce the min. power. Hence it improves the dynamic range.

  • 3.3 V control signal can be from on-board or external.
