PMP9041: PMP9041

Prodigy 130 points
Part Number: PMP9041
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: UCC28710

Hi,

Please provide clarity on following points for PMP9041 :

1. Is this power supply output is short ciruit proof? If yes please the mention details.

2. What is the ripple voltage ?

Thank you.

  • Hi @,

Thanks for your interest in PMP9041. UCC28710 has primary overcurrent protection which will cause the device to reset and restart. In the PMP9041 test results, if the load current is pushed above 2A, the device will enter constant current mode. When the load current is increased even further, the device shuts off.

The ripple voltage is ~500mV at full load. This is shown on page 7 of the PMP9041 test results:www.ti.com/.../sluuam8.pdf.

  • Thank you Ben.

Is it possible to modify the circuit to shutdown when load current exceeds 1A.

Also please suggest the modification to reduce ripple voltage below 400mV.

  • Hi @,

You can increase the resistance of R8 to adjust the set point of constant current regulation. For reference, take a look at page 11 in the UCC28710 datasheet. Equation 3 in the datasheet will help you choose an appropriate current sense resistance:www.ti.com/.../ucc28712.pdf.

To reduce the peak to peak ripple, you will need more output capacitance. You can also consider placing a pi filter on the output to further dampen the ripple.
