TIDA-00366: Application of the sensing circuitry (current, voltage and temperature) of TIDA-00366 for TIDA-00364

Part Number: TIDA-00366
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00364, , TIDA-00445, TIDA-00316, TMP235

Hello,

TIDA-00364 is a MOSFET based high current inverter from 48V DC Bus, much similar to my requirement of an inverter for a Synchronous Reluctance Machine with similar DC Bus Voltage.

However, it does not have the sensing circuitry with it.

I would like to know if the PCB designed for TIDA-00366 can also be used for sensing the voltages, currents, and Temperature of TIDA-00364, without populating the IGBT module and its gate driver in it.

  • Hi Pallab,

TIDA-00366 can measure a maximum current of upto 50Apk. The TIDA-00364 has an output current rating of 130Arms. Using a shunt resistor to measure this current will result in large power losses in the sense resistor. You can refer to either TIDA-00316 or TIDA-00445 for high current measurement.

For DC link voltage measurement, as mentioned in an earlier thread, the TIDA-00366 circuit can be used in TIDA-00364 as well. If you do not need isolation use a voltage divider and opamp amplifier circuit to drive the controller ADC.

For temperature sensing the TIDA-00366 uses NTC integrated inside the IGBT module. In case of TIDA-00364 you will need to add external temperature sensors on the board. A device like TMP235 should be suitable.
