TIDA-00120: Adjust the EVM to 48V and 40A

Part Number: TIDA-00120
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD19506KCS, CSD18532Q5B, CSD18536KCS

Hello Team,

in the Test Report - (PMP7605) it was mentioned that the EVM can be easily changed and adjusted to support 48V and 40A by just changing the MOSFETs to 100V.

I would be happy if you could recommend me a suitable replacement in order to meet these requirements and if there are further modifications needed.

Thanks in advance and regards,

Shai

  • Shai,
As the guide states, there are two parameters you will need to adjust in the FET selection to support your use case; voltage rating and package.
An 80-100V FET will be suitable, but you will also need to change the layout to support a TO-220 package to handle the extra current.

For the main switching FETs (Q2, Q3, Q4, and Q5), the existing CSD18532Q5B can be changed to the CSD19506KCS.
The power control FETs (Q1, Q6, and Q7), a 60V FET will be suitable since these will not experience the same switching voltage transients. The CSD18536KCS should would fine as an upgrade here.

Be sure to also validate that the PCB traces can suitable handle the current you wish to put through the design, and carefully consider the thermal managment.

  • Bart, Thank you very much for the detailed answer.
    I'll check it.
