TINA/Spice/PMP8621: Tried to simulate the PMP8621 reference design and failed.

Part Number: PMP8621
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TINA-TI, , TPS40210

Tool/software: TINA-TI or Spice Models

Hi Community,

I was trying to simulate the reference design PMP8621 in Tina-TI.

However I could not get the expected 300V output and there was no output at the GDRV pin of the TPS40210 model.

I wonder if there's anything I should've done to run the simulation since I almost copied the PMP8621 schematic to Tina.

Best regards,

Yilong

  • Hi user,
    Can yo check the voltages of DIS/EN pin, VDD pin, FB pin, and BP pin? I would like to see if the IC is set to the right state in your circuit.

    Thanks,
    Youhao Xi, Applications Engineering
  • Hi Youhao,

    Thank you for replying.

    Here are the values of the mentioned voltages:

    VDIS/EN = 32.72mV

    VDD = 18V

    VFB = 52mV ~ 53mV

    VBP = 7.5V

    Regards,

    Yilong

  • Hi,

    I tried to simulation your circuit in Tina, but I cannot make it work either. I am forwarding this to our modeling expert and get their help on this.

    Thanks,
    Youhao
  • Hi Yilong,

    Could you please try to run attached TINA schematic using latest TPS40210 TINA-TI model available in TI product folder?

    The one that you are using is an old one (of 2010). You can search latest model TPS40210 TINA-TI Startup Reference Design(here).

    It is recommended to check and use latest PSPICE and TINA-TI models available at ti.com.

    As suggested, please check respective pin voltages and also verify Diode,BJT and Mosfet models (they are working as expected). Sometimes they can also cause issues in simulation.

    I am closing this thread now but feel free to open it again in case you face any issues or have any other question.

    Have a nice day!

    Regards,

    Saket
