TIDA-01226: "TIDA-01226" can be use UV light?

Part Number: TIDA-01226
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DLP9500UV, DLP7000UV, DLP2010, DLP3010

Hi, I'm Hanmaro Kwon who is engineer in south Korea.
I have some questions.
"TIDA-01226" can be use UV light?
Because I want to use this part to DLP 3D Printer.

  • Hello Hanmaro,

What wavelength of UV light are you looking at? Also could you detail the desired optical power and DMD resolution you will need for 3D printing? We may have some other options for you. TIDA-01226 is intended for display applications and therefore visible light.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
  • I'm finding 405nm UV light. UV LED is better.
It is flexible depending on situation.
I'm not sure about optical power. What is optical power? You mean brightness?
And I need over Full HD 1080p resolution.
Or can't "TIDA-01226" be make a change to UV light?

  • Hello Hanmaro,

If you are looking to use 405nm narrow spectrum bands you will want to look at the DLP7000UV or DLP9500UV. Both of these use the DLP Discovery 4100 kit. If you are looking at something on the lower end we have a newly released DLP® 3010 Light Control Evaluation Module that is designed for light control applications such as 3D printing. However, it may not be designed for 405nm. You may also be interested in TIDA-00293 which is another 3D printer reference design. If however your need for 1080p is a hard technical limit then you will only want to look at the DLP9500UV. A selection guide is available here (note this doesn't include our newer DLP3010 and DLP2010 Light Control chipsets).

Note that these TI designs are intended to be a useful starting place for various end products (such as 3D printers). You will have to modify them to suit your needs. For power illuminating the DMD you will want to open the individual DMD datasheet and ensure you keep the mW/cm^2 of illumination on the DMD below the specified value. We also have listed the supported wavelengths on the DMD datasheets. Many of our DMDs are intended for visible light for video applications; therefore, special consideration will need to be taken when using them for non-display applications (DLP9500UV is specifically intended for non-video applications and may be more suitable for you).

    Thanks,

    Kyle

  • Hi Hanmaro,

I was also recently made aware that some of our light engine partners have created UV supported light engines for use with 3D printing. One example can be found on the bottom of this page: www.ti.com/.../buy-optical-engine.html

Other optical engine manufacturers may have solutions as well. This solution would save you a lot of time on your development by avoiding the need for custom optics. If you have further questions please let me know. If this is intended to be a full product released to market I'd also love to hear more so we can appropriately support you.

    Thanks,
    Kyle
