WEBENCH® Tools/UC2843: Can I use UC2843 to get output power of 80Vdc and 15Amps? In webench I cant simulate that design

Part Number: UC2843

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

My input is 200Vac and output is 80~100Vdc,15Amps...I thought of using UC2843 for this application but in webench I cant siumulate that. Please help me to understand which circuit/schematic will be suitable for my requirement.

Also if you have any better proposal or option please tell me.

Thanks&Regards,

Arkaprava SInha

  • Arkaprava,

The output power requirement for your design is much higher than what the tool can support. I will request product experts to take a look at your request to see if this can be done using UC2843.

  • Hi Amod,

Based on my requirement can you please tell me which schematic will be suitable??
In webench I am not able to simulate my requirement so I am not sure whether I am doing right thing or not.
Please help me on this regard.

    Thanks&Regards,

    CCM Interleaved PFC boost

    Hi Arkaprava,

Normally at this power level, 1500W, the power supply is in two stages, PFC front end plus a DC/DC Isolation stage.

The UCC28180 is a CCM PFC controller, which can be used in designs from 300W to 10kW. This can be used to generate a 400V dc bus voltage.

The 400V dc bus voltage can then be transformed down to 100V using a phase shifted full bridge, UCC28951. The PSFB is a zero voltage switched topology which reduces switching losses which is important when running for a 400V input.

Since your application has a 100V output the UCC3895 PSFB may be a better option as you will may not need SR mosfets on the design and can use high voltage diodes a secondary rectifiers.

  • Hi Peter,

    Thanks for sharing this information.
I have one question on UCC28180 PFC controller . What is the current rating is required for VCC pin (voltage rating is 12Vdc)?
    Please help me on this.

    Thanks&Regards,
    Arkaprava Sinha
  • Hi Arkaprava,

The operating current is given in section 7.5 of the datasheet, in typical applications it will be about 7mA, but this value will rise with higher switching frequency and with higher current rating of the PFC mosfet which increases the gate capacitance.

    Regards

    Peter
