The PMP21462 is a 12-Watt, Magnetically Resistant, Quasi-Resonant Flyback Reference Design. It is designed for wide input (90-490 Vac input) and accounts for variance due to an external magnet. In order to make this reference design work robustly across a variety of conditions, a discontinuous conduction mode (DCM) is desirable. DCM allows for a simpler control loop that can work across wide input range.
The Quasi-Resonant operation allows the controller to operate in DCM by utilizing valley-switching to reduce switching losses. The UCC28742 (High-Efficiency Flyback Controller With Optocoupler Feedback) was chosen because it offers this quasi-resonant switching capability to implement low cost output rectifiers.
To learn more about the performance of this reference design under typical and stress test conditions, refer to section 2 "Testing and Results" of the User Guide for PMP21462.
