PMP9253: Could PMP9253 support 5V / 6A ? What's your suggestion?

Part Number: PMP9253
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: PMP10506, PMP40274

Hi TI

Can we change the power transformer to PA5130.005NL to support 5V/6A output?

Any other BOM change needed?

Fortinet, Colbert Hsu

  • Hi Colbert,

Thanks for reaching out with your questions. Just confirm, are there any other changes to the design you wish to make? For example is the input voltage range different from PMP9253?

There are a number of components that need to change since the output power is increasing by a factor of 2. The current sense resistor will need to be changed to allow for the correct peak current limit, the output capacitor will need to change to ensure the voltage ripple is small enough and the loop compensation will need to b change as well.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,

    Garrett
  • Hi Garrett

    Thanks for your quickly reply.

The input voltage will be 12v to 48v, therefore the input requirement seems same as PMP9253.

Could you send me the component change list and requirement of power transformer(ex: inductance/DCR or turns ratio ...).

Meanwhile do you have excel tool can simulate the component setting is correct/marginal or not of LM5022 ?

    Thanks, Colbert Hsu

  • Hi Colbert,

It might be easier to use a design like PMP10506 than redesigning the other reference design. Another good staring point is PMP40274. These designs are designed for the correct output power.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thanks,
    Garrett
  • Hi Garrett

Thanks for your help, the PMP10506 can meet my requirement.

It's the best choose for me.

    Thanks again.
