TIDA-01292: Gate Driver LM5101BMA query

Part Number: TIDA-01292
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TMS320F28027, , LM5101B, LM5101, LM5100A, LM5101A

Hi Team,

This is with reference to the inverter design reference file of TIDA-01292. The gate driver part number is LM5101BMA & the input PWM signal to gate driver is from TMS320F28027 LaunchPad.

The input threshold voltage level of LM5101B is 4.5V(min) to 6.3V(max) . The launchpad VCC is 3.3V, then how your are meeting the requirement of threshold voltage for input signals of gate driver?

Are you using any buffer/level shifter on LaunchPad to convert 3.3V PWM signal to 6.3V level?

Thanks,

Vaibhav

  • Hello Vaibhav,

Thank you for the interest in the LM5101B and the TI reference design ITDA-01292. Looking at the datasheet table, the LM5100A/B/C input thresholds are as you mention with 4.5V Min to 6.3V Max with VDD=12V. The LM5101B which is in the TI reference design is 1.3V Min to 2.3V Max for the input rising threshold. The LM5100 family is CMOS input thresholds and the LM5101 family is the TTL compatible thresholds. So this driver is compatible with the 3.3V input signals.

The A/B/C suffix determines the driver current of 3A/2A/1A.

  • Hi Richard,

Thanks for the update. I had done the simulation using LM5100 PSpice model, in which the gate driver is not working with 3.3V input signal. I missed to read the threshold voltages of LM5101 family. Thanks for your information.

  • Hello Viabhav,

If you are running simulations, you can find the simulation models in the LM5101A product folder which should have the TTL compatible inputs.
