TIDA-00645: BLDC Motor does not move

Part Number: TIDA-00645
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8308,

I'm following the reference design to try to move TelcoMotion DT4260 BLDC motor (from the DRV8308 kit) using 1PWM mode. While the firmware successfully built and flashed apparently with MSP-EXP430G2  board, the motor did not run. The red PWRGD led on the TIDA-00645 continuously emits dimmed red light; the hall sensors receive power and output correctly, but there appear to be no power to the phases of the motor.

Please help me get the reference design working. As of right now, we think there might be issues within the firmware code - which is the one we downloaded from the reference design web page today. Is the reference design code confirmed to be working normally? If there is an updated version, please share it with me.

Thank you very much.

  • Marco,

Thanks for posting on the Motor Drives Forum.

There is no newer firmware available unfortunately, the uploaded code is the same that was used in the test results posted. Could you explain the reason you believe there to be a firmware issue?

If the system is operating normally, the PWRGD signal should be high, have you checked that VREG is as expected? Since the PWRGD LED is lighting dimly, there are probably pulses on this pin which indicate a watchdog issue (if enabled) or a VREG issue. Please also check the other power supplies.

Note that the MCU will also be reset if the PWRGD signal is toggling.

    Regards,
