WEBENCH® Tools/LMZ14203: Inverting regulator simulation

Part Number: LMZ14203

Tool/software: WEBENCH® Design Tools

Hi Team,

Need your inputs on this. Our customer was unable to simulate the LMZ14203 inverting regulator on Webench. The tool was able to product a schematic design but apparently it can't be simulated. Our customer needs the simulation data for efficiency, and is asking for the phase compensation as well.

The operating conditions were as listed.

Vin = 9V-12.5V
Vout = -3.5V
Iout = 2A

We would appreciate your assistance on this.

Regards,

Jejomar

  • Hi Jejomar,

    The efficiency data can be taken from the webench charts generated for the particular case. Regarding the loop data, we have asked the product line to provide it.

    Atul

  • Hello Atul,

    We appreciate your help. We're able to see the efficiency data. May I ask for a follow-up regarding the loop data as well?

    Thank you very much.

  • Hello Jejomar,

    Unfortunately we don't have loop data for this particular condition. Also this device uses a COT architecture and I don't anticipate any stability issues with this condition.

    Here is an application note showing how to connect the EVM for inverting configuration using this device. Also, there are some performance curves in the application note for -3.3V 2A which is quite close to the customer condition.

    If there is still a concern from the customer, my suggestion would be to order an EVM sample for the customer and run a load transient in their system.

    If they are not able to do this, we can also order an EVM and run a load transient, but it will most likely take about a week.

    Cheers,

    Denislav

  • We will use a different converter.

    There is no data on reverse efficiency on this device AND I cant simulate it anyway.

    THe other negative regulators that you recommended have been around a long time. Not the mist efficient.
