TIDA-00901: Possible typo in the schematic?

Part Number: TIDA-00901

Hi,

I think there might be a typo in TIDA-00901 schematic, page 2. The power input is 20 A. Thus, each phase current of the motor should be 20 A/sqrt(3) = 12 A. But the schematic marked 20 A on MOT_A, MOT_B, and MOT_C. Please confirm whether they are typos.

Thanks and I look forward to hearing from you,

      John

  • The "20A" information notes on the schematic are intended to remind the designer that these are high-current nodes, so that during layout the traces should be of sufficient width.  As you suggest, during normal operation, the input power will be shared by the three phases.  However, at start-up or stall conditions, one motor phase may momentarily have the majority of the current, so it is often advisable to design the traces for each phase to carry current in excess of the normal current.

  • Hi Clark,

Thank you very much for your reply. That explains the reason.

          Best regards,

          John
