TIDA-010042: Charging profile for Lead acid,Lifepo4 and Li-ion batteries

Part Number: TIDA-010042
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CSD19533KCS

Hi,

Using the MPPT TIDA-010042 can we charge different type of batteries. Please suggest me for if changes in H/W or Firmware need to be done.

Study says Li-ION batteries wont support trickle charging, it cannot accept an overcharge.

Regards

Hari

  • Hi Hari,

The design currently has a CC-CV battery charging profile, that can work well with Lithium battery chemistries. You may have to do finer adjustments on the voltage and charging current based on the actual battery you are using. No hardware changes will be required.

  • Hi Salil,

In TIDA-010042 we changed the mosfet part to CSD19533KCS for Q6,Q7,Q8 and Q9 to increase the load current to 40A. Along with these changed the

inductor L6 , L7 part to SER2915H-332 it has current rating upto 60A,

By changing the firmware we reached upto 30A load current ,above this limit output current drops to 10A  @ this load point Panel current is 10A& battery current is 20A it is taking.

Is there need for change in switching frequency to reach 40A current?Any one tested the 40A load current?

    Regards

    Hari

  • Hi Hari,

There is no problem in modifying the circuit for 40A current. However, the software has to be tuned for this current. Please check the current limits set in the software. I am thinking that above 30A, some protection set in software is getting triggered.
