TIDA-01540: Snubber circuit or bleeder circuit for MOSFETs

Part Number: TIDA-01540
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: TIDA-00366

Hello team TI,

In process of modifying the TIDA01540 for MOSFET circuit, I found that there is no snubber circuit or bleeder resistor circuit present. Does snubber circuit or bleeder circuit not important for long run or there is another reason to remove it from the TIDA?

Thank You.

  • Hi Utsav,

Thanks for your inquiry. TIDA-01540 does not need a snubber indeed. Proper layout and proper dimension of the gate resistor (please refer to chapter 2.2.1.9 Gate Resistors in its design guide) keep any ringing at level.

A bleeder circuit is probably always a good idea to mitigate the high voltage hazard from the DC Link capacitor. TI's reference designs are not meant to be 'ready-to-go' products. Their focus is much more on demonstrating the performance of TI's products in a certain use case. Please let me know if I miss something here and you think that the bleeder circuit would have an impact we should better demonstrate. TIDA-00366 would show a bleeder resistance network if you would like to find a reference (and to make sure we are talking about the same).

I hope this addresses your concerns.

    Best regards,

    Michael
