TIDA-010071: How does it compare with TIDA-00637 and TIDC-EVSE-WiFi?

Hi,

We were thinking of using TIDA-00637 for a project, but I see that TIDA-010071 has been released in 2019 whereas TIDA-00637 has been released in 2015.

Are there any circumstances under which we shouldn't use the latest design? (TIDA-010071)

To be a little more specific, we're working on an IoT application, and I note that TIDA-010071 doesn't seem to have an microcontroller, but TIDA-00637 has a MSP430 MCU. So can TIDA-010071 still be used somehow with a WiFi module, like CC3120?

I also wanted to know if it is wise to consider using TIDC-EVSE-WIFI, since it was also released a while ago (2016).

    Yes, TIDC-EVSE-WIFI (TIDA-00637 + CC3100BOOST)  is still a relevant design to use as reference for Level 1 & 2 AC charging stations. 

    TIDA-010071 would be good design to reference below sub-system:

    • Pilot Wire detection - using  TLV1805 and is J1772 compliant (the OPA171 used in TIDA-0637 may have challenges to meet 2us rise/fall time requirement of J1772)
    • Power tree topology for generation on +/-12V, 5V, 3.3V, -5V 
    • Relay driving using DRV110
    • Relay weld detection using ISO1212

    TIDC-EVSE-WIFI would be good design to reference below sub-system:

    • Metrology sub-system using MSP430F6736 (missing in TIDA-010071)
    • CC3100BOOST for WiFi connectivity
