PMP21309: Bi-directional DC-DC converter

Part Number: PMP21309
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: LMG3410R070

Hello,

The design PMP21309 uses 4 power switches? Two of them are LMG3410R070 and two are traditional MOSFET each controlled by UCD 7138. Is that correct?

That is, half bridge at each side of the transformer. Correct?

If we want to make that design bi-directional we need to have at least controlled full bridge at each side. Correct?

A total of 8 power switches. Correct?

If all the above is true. Does TI have reference design for such a controlled resonant-DC-DC converter?

Regards

Sam

  • Hello Sam,

it's a LLC converter, but on the secondary side these FET's are just synchronous rectifiers,
basically "emulating" the function of a diode to avoid forward voltage losses of a standard rectifier.

A bidirectional design could consist of a full bridge on primary side and a full fridge on secondary,
a dual active bridge DAB, so this is correct.

We have such a 6.6kW DAB design, will be introduced at actual Power Supply Design Seminar, stay tuned.

    Best regards, Bernd
