CCS/TIDA-00449: Can't connect TIDA-00449 with the MSP-EXP430G2ET, Unknown device

Hello,

I have connected the SBWTDIO, SBWTCK, 3V3 and GND pins from the MSP430 launchpad to the TIDA-00449 board. When I try to flash the given firmware on the board I get "MSP430: Error connecting to the target: Unknown device". Tried flashing the MSP430 on the Launchpad and it works.

Is it a problem that I have the TIDA board powered from the launchpad? The board has no other power supply connected.

Hi Mario,

Regarding the issues, you may try below processes:

1) make sure the SBWTDIO & SBWTCK are connected correctly;

2) you can test with oscilloscope if 3V3 is stable;

3) reconnect the lauchpad with PC and TIDA-00449 board;

Normaly if 3.3V is stable, it should work. If that doesn't help, I suggest you to capture the SWTCK and SWTDIO waveform, open another E2E thread only about the MSP430 IC you are using.

I solved it.

I took the IC from the launchpad out and connected the SWCLK AND SWDIO from the DIP package to the IC pins on the board. This effectively bypassed the onboard capacitors and resistors for programming and used the ones on the launchpad. When connected like that I could identify the IC and programm it.
