TIDA-01471: Gain Stage Question - Use case

Part Number: TIDA-01471

Hey Ti,

Further questions on the IEPE interface. The use case of the gain stage, is it for amplification of small signals? Or some other purposes. As far as I can tell the attenuation gets the IEPE signal into the range you want, then the gain stage can amplify small signals. Or is ther another reason?

My current design I know that my IEPE sensor will always be +-5V, I will attenuate with the 1/8, filter and then to the opamp. The input to the LM751 will be +-0.625 V centered around 1.65 V (so safety within the 2.5 V max). My question is can I set the gain to 1 on the LM751?

Am I missing something?

Thanks,

dan

  • Hello,

Yes, the gain stage is to support wide dynamic range, with +/-10V maximum input.

Your scheme sounds good, and I think it should work.

as for the LM751, it's configured as non-inverting amplifier, which has always a gain higher than 1. You can alternatively use it in a unity gain buffer configuration, However, output would be bipolar and changes to the subsequent stage is needed. Note that the differential stage would have a gain of 2 at least (SE to Diff)

    Best Regards,
