TIDA-00489: Simulating Motion with IR LED

Hi,

We are planning to use the same design as TIDA-00489 in one of our product but we are planning to use Sensor : IRAS210ST01 as a motion sensor. We want to create a closed chamber automated test system for the device testing and Testing PIR sensor is one of the test cases.
Is it possible to simulate the motion using an IR LED and cause the sensor to trigger. Please suggest the LED characteristics if it is possible.

    Hi Rineet,

    The IRA-S210ST01 sensor uses an optical filter with a 5-um "long pass" characteristic (meaning it transmits longer wavelengths but not shorter ones).  This makes it a good choice for detecting the far-infrared radiation from warm bodies, which tends to be in the 10 um range.  Most IR LEDs would emit at much shorter wavelengths (like 900 nm), though - the sensor would most likely not be able to pick this up.  Finding an LED with a wavelength greater than 5 um would be a challenge - you may have better luck with something like an incandescent bulb that is powered enough to warm up to approximately skin temperature (~300 K).
