TIDA-00281: Reason for 3 MOSFET Driver usage

Part Number: TIDA-00281
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: DRV8303

What is the purpose of using separate 3-MOSFET driver(UCC27201AQDDARQ1) for each Phases,

Why single DRV8303 cannot be used in this application, any reason for this.

Request your feedback.

  • Hi, Elavarasan, Either is a valid architecture. Benefits of an UCC27201-based design: - higher source and sink current for fets - located closer to FETs for better PCB layout - power dissipation of driver spread across three ICs - more flexibility to modify design architecture - hardware controlled, no firmware required Benefits of DRV8303-based design: - slew rate control for reduced EMI - supports 100% duty cycle - includes current sense amplifier - more flexibility to tune design via software
  • Dear sir,

Please suggest for 3 phase BLDC motor driver ( 48V, 50Apms, 1KW controller)

    Which design is better

    1) Having 3 Mosfet driver for each Phase channel.

    2) Having single MOSFET for all three phase.

    Which design will be optimal.

  • Hi, Elavarasan, I listed the trade-offs above, it is up to you to study them and decide which is best for your particular application.
