Hi everyone,

I'm trying to make a desing with the ESI of EVM430-FR6989 with 2 sensors, and I don't know how to choose the coils correctly. I've read the documentation of TIDA-010050 and "Method to Select the Value of LC Sensor for MSP430 Extended Scan Interface (ESI)".

Our features are the following ones:

Diameter of the semicircle: 12mm.
Distance from the disk to the sensor: between 8-10mm.
Sample rating: 50 Hz.

We need to use external coils instead of internals. I've seen on the case of d=4.2 mm, diameter of 11mm and sampling at 12 Hz, you used 235uH but the value of the capacitor doesn't appear and I don't know how to choose my values correctly.

What is your means? You would like to use 2 sensor for FR6989?

What's means for " We need to use external coils instead of internals."

FR6989 have a ESCI module for metering, you would like use external rather than internal?

Hi Johnson,

Yes, I want to use 2 sensors, and with external I mean real coils not with microstrip lines.

We want to adapt the micro to our PCB and use the ESI, that's why we need to choose wisely the coils with our features and with the documentation provided we don't know exactly how to do it.

Also, in the EVM430-FR6989 Evaluation Kit User's Guide, table 9, they show the following information:

Capacitor Generic C0G/NP0 220-pF ceramic capacitor
Inductor 470 µH Radial type (Murata 11R474C, DigiKey: 811-2034-ND)
