LAUNCHXL-CC2650: CC2650 Long Range Coded PHY Support

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC2650
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2650, CC2640R2F

Does the CC2650 support Long Range Coded PHY for bluetooth LE? It was my understanding that it did but I cannot find anything about it in the manual for the BLE SDK here: https://www.ti.com/lit/pdf/SWRU393E

  • Hey Pete,

Unfortunately, the Coded PHY feature was introduced in the Bluetooth Spec v5.0 and the CC2650 only has support for v4.2 features.

If you are looking for a device that can support the coded PHY, you can try the following:

    • CC2642R: Supports Bluetooth 5
    • CC2652R: Multi-protocol support for Bluetooth low energy, Zigbee and Thread
    • CC2640R2F: Most up to date Bluetooth low energy (4.2) stack

The CC2640R2F supports v5.0 but unfortunately you will very likely run into known memory limitations on that device if you use the BLE5-stack. For this reason, I would not recommend this for Bluetooth v5 features (hence the strikethrough above).
