CC2650EM-4XS-RD: CC2650 0Xbad Error while using SmartRF studio

Thank you for your reply.

Firstly, I am using cJTAG, with only Reset, TCK, Tms, I am able to flash the chip, and able to verify IOs such as a LED I have on my design. Just the rf is not working. I have tried the rfPacketTX example from TI and the BLE stack simple peripheral. in the rfPacket the Led was performing as normal but not RF signal.

Thank you for getting back to me so quickly. Looking through the component values. I see that C1 and C2 are slightly lower than the values used in the reference design. In the reference design, these capacitors are 12pF. Can you try changing them to see if this behavior is still present?

I've changed the capacitors, but am currently facing a problem to connect to SmartRf studio, it gives me the Device Reset Failed message over and over. Do you have any tips for this error?

Also, in the simple peripheral example for CC2650em, where is the location where I need to do the #define CC2650DK_4XS, is it already predefined internally on the chip?

No problem.  Can you provide the exact error you are seeing? Can you verify if it is the error described in the following E2E thread and if so, then can you verify if installing an older version of RF Studio eliminates the error? The SmartRF error is the same, I've actually read the post before. I was able to use smartrf before with current custom pcb, I've resoldered some components and eventually stopped working there. But it does work on Flash programmer and CCS. 

I'll dive in the BLE advertizing and let you know if I get something.

Hi Joao,

To be clear, the board worked previously, but after resoldering some components, it does not work any more? Were the components of the same value? If you put the original components back, does it work again? If resoldering cause this issue, then it may be possible that there is a layout problem present. Have you submitted your board design for the SIMPLELINK-2-4GHZ-DESIGN-REVIEWS? If not, then I would suggest you do so. By submitting your design for a hardware review, the RF portion of the design will be reviewed by an expert on the team to verify if there are any potential issues with the design.

Hi Jan, 

Yes, I've just resoldered the CC chip and got to work on smartrf on first trial, with the new capacitors. Did a PacketTX test and got the Status: 0x0 IDLE. Which was different than the 0x0abd from before. But right after it's giving me the HIB reset errors again. 

I'll install the previous version for SmartRF but had some problems with the debug firmware, maybe due to some admin reasons. 

I'll try to submit the design for review soon, to see if it is a PCB design problem.

Got it. Thanks for the additional information, Please update us after verifying if an older version of SmartRF behaves differently. When you submit the design review, please ensure to reference this E2E thread in the request. It will allow for better tracking and ensure that all of the context is available when the review is being performed.
