LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2: CC2640R2 integrated temperature sensor

Part Number: LAUNCHXL-CC2640R2
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640R2F, CC2640

Dear Team,

We have ordered cc2640r2f launchpad for our prototype development. We have two questions,

1. We understood from the CC2640 datasheet it has an integrated temperature sensor. Can we use this integrated temperature sensor to measure the environmental temperature or it can be used to measure only the board temperature.

2. When we have checked the CC2640 datasheet, it is available in three packages and from the number GPIOs in the CC2640R2F launchpad, we understood that the launchpad is using CC2640R2FRGZ which has 31 GPIOs.  But after did a detailed search we come to know that only CC2640R2FYFVR are in stock and the remaining packages are out of stock and it shows long lead time. Could you please suggest any other development board which has similar functionality and more GPIO pins.

  • 1. I don't think it's good to use integrated temperature sensor to measure the environmental temperature. i would suggest you to use external temperature sensor such as tmp116.

    2. You can check if CC2642R1 can be used for your application.

  • Hi,

To complete previous answer, the temperature measured by the integrated temperature sensor might be significantly impacted by other factors than the ambient temperature.

When it comes to similar parts you could look at the CC2640R2F-Q1, CC2642R, CC2652R, CC2652R7, etc. However it seems like right these are out of stock.

Depending on the exact features you need, you could consider looking at the CC2640 and CC2650 (careful these are not equivalent/binary compatible with a CC2640R2 device).

Otherwise, you could go for a dual band device (like CC1352P7).

    I hope this will help,

    Kind regards,
