ez430 modules in new ez430-RF2560 kits appear faulty

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2560, MSP430F5438A

I have 3 of these kits. 2 I just received. The 1st kit I received 6 weeks ago.

The 1st kit works well with IAR no issues.

When I insert the ez430 module from either of the 2 new kits, and perform an "erase flash memory" or "download" with these modules, I get an "Invalid Parameter(s)" message right after the "Vcc Voltage: 3.5V" message.  This is independent of ANY of the radio modules.

Ideas?

  • Gerry,

One recommendation is to download and test the EZ430 using FetPro430:

    http://www.elprotronic.com/files/FET-Pro430-Lite-Setup.zip

There is a folder provided with the SDK that has binary files in them (extension .d43). Try and use the ez430-accl.d43 file to program the EZ430. Do auto program and it should run the MSP430 through a battery of tests.

Also, did the EZ430 blink the red LED when connected to power?

  • I am having the same exact issue.

I got one ez430-RF256xT kit (v2.1) from TI and I still have not been able to run the demo. (The modules have PAN1323 Bluetooth on them)

    ---------------------

First of all, I tried to run the demo on kits right out of the box but I couldn't get the blue LED turn solid.

I followed all the steps in the wiki page (processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/EZ430-RF256x) but the modules do not connect.

    This is what happens:

When I connect the board to the power source, the RED LED start blinking very fast for about a second then it turns solid.

While the Red LED is solid, the Blue LED starts flashing.

If I press SW1 now, the Blue LED starts flashing faster.

Now according to the tutorial after 20-30 seconds the Blue LED has to turn solid but it won't. It keeps blinking forever.

    -------------

Next, I decided to reprogram the boards using IAR.

I open the ez430-accl.eww workspace and make sure "LibTI_init_script_BT_CC256x.r43" library is included and "LibTI_init_script_BT_CC2560.r43" is excluded according to:

    http://processors.wiki.ti.com/index.php/CC256x_Bluetooth_Versions_and_Service_Packs

When I download the code onto the board I get the same message as Greg mentioned; It says "Invalid parameter(s)"

    ez430-accl.d43

    ------------------

Following your suggestion, I also used FET-Pro430 to reprogram the board with all the tests passing. I used the binary that came with the SDK (ez430-accl.d43)

    Here's the report for FET-Pro430:

    Reading Code File ........................... done
    -- Code size = 0x1BB15 ( 113429 ) bytes
    =====================================
    JTAG communication initialization.... OK
    Verifying Security Fuse .................... OK
    Erasing memory ............................... done
    JTAG communication initialization.... OK
    All memory Blank checking............. OK
    Flash programming .................... done
    Verifying check sum ......................... OK
    -------- D O N E --- ( run time = 269.0 sec.)

Now very strangely after programming the Kit using the ez430-accl.d43, BOTH LEDS starts blinking together without ever turning off.

I am really getting desperate and I am suspecting the modules are faulty....

    Any help is really appreciated.
    Thanks,
