The choice of using the word peripheral in the context of what is known by peripheral, remains ambiguous in the Simple Peripheral BLE even though it is well understood that this project can be the framework for many other projects! What peripheral are we employing here to warrant such characterization?

BLE peripheral is a common item which is selected and used by Bluetooth SIG and its specification and it's not invented by TI or other BLE solution vendor. Please read the specification first.

I read the specifications but still I do not understand the meaning of peripheral in this context? I think of a peripheral as an external entity. So in this context, what is simple peripheral referring to? What peripheral are we talking about? Does advertising the expression Simple peripheral ble refer to a peripheral memory location wherein said expression is being stored? Thank you!
