CC2541: PTM test

Part Number: CC2541
Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2642R

Hi team,

Customer has a question:

Now we need you to tell us which firmware can be burned into PTM mode, which pins can be connected, and which instruments can be connected for wireless coexistence test.

In the Ti forum you sent, these replies are more communication with some TI chip R & D personnel. As non professionals, we don't have such R & D technology level and can't understand its content.

Thanks

Best regards

Jiahui

  • Hi Jiahui,

Could you please specify why the customer is interesting into enabling PTM and how it will be using it?

PTM (Production Test Mode) is a way to enable the device to receive a subset of the HCI commands defined by the Bluetooth specification. The HCI commands should be sent over UART. In general a Bluetooth tester is used to send these commands, send the required radio signals and measure the radio signals sent by the CC2541. Less advanced tools could be considered depending on the exact elements tested in production.

PTM may not be totally relevant to test wireless coexistence. In general, the Bluetooth test commands (used in PTM) are not made to properly support coexistence. In other words, the system may fail the coexistence test when in test mode while succeeding in other modes.

Last but not least, I am surprised you are using CC2541 for coexistence. We rather recommend CC2642R for this type of application.

  • Hi Clément

    Thanks for your reply.

The customer just wants Ti to provide firmware to enter PTM because of the need of authentication.

I sent this post to the customer, but the customer doesn't understand the operation steps. They need to teach how to enter PTM mode or DTM mode step by step.

Could you provide support? They need to directly burn the firmware and hardware connection method.

  • Hi Jiahui,

I am afraid TI cannot build custom software for customers.

The approach consisting in leveraging this thread is the right to follow.

    Thank you for your comprehension.
