curent consumption test about CC2540EMK and CC2541EMK

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2541EMK, CC2541, CC2540

I am testing to measure current of CC2540EMK and  CC2541EMK.

Test BLE project is SimpleBLEPeripheral project.  I also enable POWER_SAVING both.

I used ENERGY MICRO's energyAware Profiler  for measuring the current consumption.

By comparing two chip's datasheet, I think that CC2541 has less current consumption than CC2540.

But, result is CC2541EMK is more current consumption than CC2540EMK. ( CC2541EMK : about 1.1mA , CC2540EMK : about 140uA )

I don't know why. I think CC2540 and CC2541 are the same with the exception of supporting USB.

Sorry for my poor english.

Thank you for helping me.

  • How do you have your i2C pins connected. That itself can be the reason why you see the extra current.

    In the CC2540EM the USB pins are connected to ground, while in the CC2541 there are pull up resistors on the i2C lines.

  • Thank you very much.

    I  found CC2541EM schematic.

    There are pull up resistors(10k ohm) on SCL and SDL pin in CC2541EM.

    But I found the SCL and the SDA were connected to ground in motherboard that I use to supply voltage on the CC2541EM.

    I measure current consumption after the SCL and the SDA pin were disconnected to ground. ( only VDD and GROUND pin are connected with CC2541EM )

    CC2541EM drop the current consumption. (1.11mA -> 3.8 uA )
