CC26XX Reference Layout Long RF Traces

Other Parts Discussed in Thread: CC2640

Hi,

Currently we are designing a new product which is based on CC2640. As TI suggested, we consider available reference designs for this purpose. Our design needs to be compact as possible but it also needs to provide good RF performance.

My question is about the RF trace lengths between CC26xx and antenna. As can be seen below graphics that are taken from reference layout section of CC26xx HW Training document, TI used traces whose length is long compared to RF components' length.  I want to know that why long traces are used? Are they related with SMA connector or are they used to provide optimal distance between Antenna and CC26xx? If so, what is the optimal distance between Antenna and CC26xx?

Thanks

Alper
