Hi,

i want to use the UART Interface (Target Auxiliary Connector) on XDS110 Debug Probe for HCI tests on CC2640R2F but i get a connection Error on BTool Application.

When i do the same with the XDS100 OnBoard debugger the connection was working. But in future we want to use the XDS110 debug probe for production tests.

CC2640R2F Test Firmware: host_test_cc2640r2lp_app

Power at the DUT is 3.3V

Any idea what i'm doing wrong with the XDS110

There are two virtual com ports simulated by XDS110 and you should use application com port instead of Auxiliary com port.

Hi,

at time i use pin 12 and 14 at the AUX connector at XDS110. Which connector and which pins are the correct one at XDS110?

Hi YK,

i verify the issue by using a standard CC2640R2 LaunchPad together with the XDS110 Debug Probe. Later i want to connect my own hardware direct to the XDS110.

Here my hardware setup.

Hi Chen,

later at our own hardware we don't have the LaunchPad available. This example with the Launchpad is only for verfiy this issue on a standard LaunchPad. I verify this issue also with the Onboard XDS110 that is working fine but that is not alternative.

Also on the XDS110 Debug Probe is Energy Trace available.

According the datasheet the XDS110 Debug Probe support the uart. Maybe is a firmware bug at the XDS110 Debug Probe?

I never see such XDS110 and don’t have experience using it so No idea about how to help you.

Hi Claus,

I agree with Yikai, why not simply use the LaunchPad as debugger instead of the stand-alone type? It is cheaper also :-) The new CC13x2/CC26x2 LaunchPads will eventually get energy trace as well.

Hi Fredrik,

Unfortunately, this is not an option for Claus.
This setup is for production tests and the external XDS110 is needed for this.

Can we look into why the debug probe UART does not behave the same way as the on-board UART?

Maybe try to use scope to check if there’s signal on UART TX/RX pins.

yes i swapping the UART signals pins. No difference, still not work.

Hello Claus,

Can you verify that you have 3.3 V on your CC2640R2F? I don't think the XDS110 Standalone probe outputs 3.3 V default as the on-board XDS110 does.

Hi Simon,

the XDS110 Debug Probe is variable to program the VCC output voltage from 1.8 to 3.6V. I tested with 3.0V and with 3.3V.
Still doesn't work.
Additional monitoring the UART signal by using a scope . The UART signals are quit.

Do the same with on-board XDS110. Here i see a digital sequence at UART signals.

Hi Claus,

How do you enable VCC on the XDS110 Debug Probe when you are using BTool? As opposite to the on-board XDS110, the standalone probe do not supply voltage on VCC by default. See chapter "3.1.2 Probe-Supplied Power" in: http://www.ti.com/lit/ug/sprui94/sprui94.pdf.

I tried the same setup as you, but had to power CC2640R2F externally or have an active EnergyTrace/Debug session running to get data on the UART.

Hi Simon,

right the power supply need to activate with CCS session. But later i want to do that with Command Line Utility.

I tested also with a external power supply or supply direct with the LaunchPad.

But still at all this test's the external XDS110 UART doesn't was working.

I'm not able reproduce your problem here with XDS110, CC264R2 LP and BTool. I have connected the XDS110 the CC2640R2F LP like this:

With this setup BTool works as expected.

Are you able to get data on the XDS110 Debug Probe UART if you run other applications on your CC2640R2F, like Project Zero?

Hi Simon,

perfect no is working. The reason is to connect the TGTVDD (Sense) to VDD signal.

Is also working with power supply direct from XDS110 external. Now is possibility to monitoring the current by ET option at CCS by control the device with BTool or BLE test (R&S CMW270..).

Here a picture from the ET measurement by using the BTool.

don't test XDS110 Debug Probe UART with other applications on my CC260R2F, like Project Zero yet.
