TI-BT-4-2-STACK-LINUX-ADDON: Wilink8 Bluetooth MESH Support

Part Number: TI-BT-4-2-STACK-LINUX-ADDON

Hi

We are using a WiLink8 based module which supports Bluetooth and is interfaced to Linux using HCI and the BlueZ (Ver 5.5) stack.

As I understand it the WiLink8 firmware does not currently support Bluetooth MESH however would you please advise if this support is planned in a future and if not the technical reasons for MESH not being able to be supported?

Regards

Malcolm

  • As I know, this depends on BlueZ and I see BlueZ seems already provide Bluetooth mesh support.
  • Hi YK,

Thank you for your response, have you tried this at all?

The previous responses from TI suggest that this is not supported, however these are obviously quite old responses and are potentially superseded by more recent updates.

The previous e2e focused on the Core Spec requirements defined in the BLE mesh specification. Since WL18xx is currently not certified for core specification 5.0 or the core specification addendum 6, it cannot be certified for BLE mesh.

That being said, as long as your host stack is able to support Mesh model and work with WL18xx controller, you should be able to run the BLE mesh as YK mentioned. There is no BLE mesh solution for the TI dual-mode BT stack for WL18xx. However, you may be able to implement and certify, on your own, using BlueZ or BT stacks from some of our 3rd party partners. I hope this helps.

    Best regards,
